Who We Are

M-21 Church of Christ History

The first meeting of the church at Owosso was on April 20, 1952 at the Armory building in Owosso with seven local members present. The church began meeting at the American Legion Home May 11, 1952. Within a few months a building on Corunna Avenue was purchased and remodeled into a meeting place.

Elders were appointed in 1961 and property was purchased on east M-21 on which to construct an adequate house of worship. By mid-1963, we were meeting in our new building at the present location, 2511 E. M-21, Corunna.  At that time there were about 60 members and Sunday morning attendance averaged about 100.  Membership increased to about 85 members by 1969. Two years later, membership had tripled!

Quite a number of our young men went on to become preachers, personal workers, missionaries, employees at Christian Colleges and Children's Homes.  Many of our past members have moved out of the area, some have passed on, and some no longer "walk in the light". There is only one living and active member left of the original seven.

We are a friendly church and welcome visitors from the community and those who are traveling through the area
.

What We Believe

The church of Christ is a non-denominational group of believers who use the Bible as their only authority.  We use no man-made creed books which only adds to
or takes away from God's Word.  We try to "speak where the Bible speaks, be silent where the Bible is silent".  We strive to be the same church as described in the New Testament.  We believe the Bible is inspired by God.  We have no human leader or organization to answer to but Christ who is the head of the church.

How We Worship

The Lord's Supper:  We take the Lord's Supper every first day of the week.  It consists of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine as memorials of the body and blood of Jesus

    Singing:  Everyone sings
gospel hymns together with no mechanical instruments to accompany our voices.  We sing this way to follow the pattern of the first century church, not because we don't like instrumental music.  We find no authority for using musical instruments in the New Testament or in secular history.

Preaching: We simply preach the word of God.  Our lessons are designed to encourage obedience to the gospel by those who listen.

    Teaching:  We read and study
the Bible.  We simply teach the word of God. Our lessons are designed to encourage obedience to the gospel by those who hear and believe.

Collection:  On the first day of the week, a basket is passed for the members to make a free will offering
because the Bible tells us to give as we have been prospered.    No one is pressured to give a certain amount and visitors are not expected to contribute unless they choose to.  Funds are never raised in any other way.  The funds are used to spread the Gospel, to pay for our meeting place, to support our preacher, and help those who are in need.

Baptistry:  Our building is equipped with a baptistry for baptizing those who respond to the gospel invitation.

Fellowship:  Fellowship: We have a fellowship meal together once a month, and enjoy celebrating birthdays and anniversaries together. We keep in contact with each other during the week through phone calls, e-mails, and visits.

Benevolence:  We help those who are in need of food or clothing.
